This project started in 2000 and after 11 years of consistent effort, the new Pavilion on the old King George V field has opened. The old pavilion built in the 1960’s was tumbledown and about to be condemned.
If this had happened it would have robbed Copthorne of all sporting facilities. Copthorne is a large village on the north Sussex / Surrey borders.
The new Copthorne Pavilion has a good size multi-use hall, with own toilet facilities and well equipped kitchen and completely separate changing facilities with showers and toilets. The fantastic views are over the Surrey countryside towards Gatwick and there is good parking.
A few years ago the Copthorne Sports Association became The Copthorne Sports and Community Association Ltd and was granted Charity status in 2011. This not-for-profit organisation plans to utilise The Pavilion for sport, health, fitness and wellbeing for all ages and all abilities in the community. This includes keeping the minds active as well the bodies!
It is good to have our Stool Ball, Cricket and Football Clubs playing on their home ground again, whilst our support and links to the Table Tennis and Badminton clubs continues. Ideas for new sporting clubs are being processed.
Fundraising will continue for several reasons: to pay the running costs of the pavilion; to build a fund for future development; to help towards the repayment of the loan taken out by WPC so this pavilion could be built to schedule.
If you are able to give a donation please send a cheque made out to Copthorne Sports and Community Association and send to:
